It is very easy to learn and you will get started immediately. You can find everything about program in the tooltips and the guides on the spot. You will never need a manual.

A lot of effort has gone into making the program as straight-forward as possible. The visual assist is a typical example, which can help you determine the position of a character, input the text you want to remove or replace, etc.

Faster Rename also supports undo, which is a must-have feature for any renaming software.

Comprehensive renaming rules:

• add string, date, time, file size, mp3 info, pdf info, exif data, xmp data, html title, sequential number, random number, random string, detected extension, etc. at a specific position
• remove/replace specified strings
• remove/replace a subset of the filenames
• remove multiple leading or trailing characters
• replace a group of individual characters in one go
• make uppercase/lowercase, capitalize every word...

You can see the results of the renaming rules while adjusting the parameters. The instant preview makes short work out of finding the right settings and avoids unnecessary mistakes.

The differences between old names and new names are shown with color highlighting, so you will not have to stare at them and try to figure out the changes.

Furthermore, the differences are not based on comparison, but based on action tracking. The former will generate wrong results under complicated situations, while the latter will not.
Suppose, for example, the 2nd 'a' was removed from 'aaa', the former would consider the 1st or 3rd 'a' was removed, while the latter would give you the right answer immediately.

This is a unique feature of Faster Rename.

Combine multiple rename steps:

You can combine a series of rename steps into a scheme. This allows you to perform even the most complex batch renaming tasks in a single run.

Faster Rename provides you a fully functional scheme manager, with which you can edit the rules in a scheme; also you can save, load, delete, export or import your schemes.

Copy or move renamed files with no extra step:

Besides renaming, Faster Rename allows you to copy or move renamed files to a destination folder.

In addition, the program can create a subfolder under the destination folder, and then copy or move your files to the newly created subfolder. It is possible to create multiple subfolders if the name of the subfolder includes a tag.

With this feature, you can easily copy or move different files to different subfolders by including a tag in the name of the subfolder, such as <date-photo-taken>.

Faster Rename provides you different ways to add files:

• drag & drop files or folders directly into the Filecart
• select "Faster Rename..." from the right-click context menu in the Windows Explorer
• click on the "add files" button, and then select files as usual
• click on the "add files from selected folders with filters" button, and then select the folders containing your files

Faster Rename is fully compatible with 64-bit Windows.

Select files from folders using powerful filters:

Faster Rename can filter out the files not matching your filter.

The filter can be in the Microsoft MS-DOS wildcard match format, in which an asterisk '*' matches any number of characters (including no characters) and a question mark '?' matches any single character existing at that position. You are allowed to use multiple filters of this type.

The filter can also be a regular expression, which must be prefixed with "re:" to distinguish it from the wildcard filter.

If you choose to "invert" your selection, only the files not matching your filter will be added to the Filecart.

Plenty of tags to extract information from the files:

Tag is a special noun phrase enclosed by a pair of angle brackets. It represents a piece of information associated with a file and will be replaced by the actual information at runtime. For example, <file-size> will be replaced by the actual file size.

There are several types of tags: string, number, date, time, and so on. Each of them has its unique parameters. You can specify the details of the tags using the parameters. For example, you can specify how many digits that a tag of the number type has.

Flexible ways to locate a substring in the filenames:

Subset is a unique concept of Faster Rename. It helps you locate a substring in the filenames in flexible manners.

Here are some situations the subset may help:

• insert a string after the 2nd word
• insert a string before the last number
• remove the 2nd occurrence of a string
• replace the last match of a regular expression
• ...

Faster Rename has prepared a well-designed editor, so you can configure a subset easily. First, you choose a manner. Second, you adjust one or two parameters. Then you get it.

The program also prepared three more options for advanced usage. You can offset the subset, resize the subset, or extend the boundary to the beginning or the end of the filenames.
